Magdalena Maleeva (seeded 21) of Bulgaria lost in the fourth round to Amelie Mauresmo of France (seeded 3) 2-6, 1-6.
In men's doubles, Sargis Sargsyan and teammate Karsten Braasch (of Germany) lost in the quarterfinals 3-6, 4-6 to Mahesh Bhupathi from India and Max Mirnyi of Belarus.
