Arts Digest : A capsule review and preview of art and entertainment in Armenia


FESTIVAL FOR DISABLED: This year charitable festivals will be held in Yerevan, Stepanakert and Los Angeles, Chairman of the public organization "Hayastan-Artsakh-Spyurq" ("Armenia-Artsakh-Diaspora") Vahe Haroutiunyan said at a press-conference reported by Arminfo on March 24.

The first concert of the charitable action will be held on March 31 in Yerevan with participation of "Pyunik" and "Will and Force" agencies for the disabled. The proceeds of the festival will go toward helping intergrate 3,500 hearing and speaking impaired.

Artists of the Armenian State Theatre of Opera, Armenian pop-stars Shushan Petrossyan, Forsh, Aramo and Emma Petrossyan, Syuzan Margaryan, Sirusho and others will participate in the concert.

ART MANAGEMENT : A new subject, Art Management, will be introduced in Armenia in the educational program of one of the private universities of the country - Haybusak.

Rector Anahit Haroutunian said the new subject is necessary for organizing concerts, exhibitions and other cultural arrangements more effectively.

FILM FESTIVAL: A Second Armenian Film Festival "Millennium Film Workshop" was held in New York on March 16-18, arminfo reported on March 23. Some 40 full-length and short films made by film-directors of Armenian origin from Armenia , France , the USA , Turkey , Russia , Netherlands and Canada were shot. Besides, photos and collages reflecting the national traditions of Armenians were exhibited. The First Armenian Film Festival was held on Feb 20. One of the organizer's Anahit Kasabyan said that the proceeds from the second festival will be used to organize a summer film-program at Yerevan Museum of Modern Art.

CULTURAL EXCHANGE PROGRAM: Vocalists from Lexington High School in the United States will visit Yerevan late in April for a cultural exchange program, reported Arminfo on March 22.

The group is to give a concert together with an Armenian choir. Armenian and American folklore and church songs will be performed. The group is also scheduled to hold a meeting with a Conservatory Professor, who will deliver a lecture on the theory of music. Beside the musical experience the children will gain in Armenia , they will take part in a benevolent action at an orphanage.

April 2, 3, 4 Paronyan Theatre , performances of Moscow State Academic Theatre named after Yevgeni Vakhtangov. Actors Vasili Lanavoy and Yevgeni Knyazev will present “Dedication to Eve”play, artistic director of the theatre Mikhayel Ulyanov. Ticket cost 500-6000 AMD.

April 3, 6, 10 Chamber Music Hall, Week- Festival of Oboe Organized by National Chamber Orchestra, with participation of Canadian musician Alexandra Pohran Dokins, conducted by Aram Gharabekyan. Ticket cost 500-2000 AMD.

April 10 Karen Demirchyan Complex , Concert of Russian pop group “Viagra”. Ticket cost 1500-5000 AMD.

April 14 Aram Khachatryan Philharmonic Concert Hall, Concert devoted to 60 jubilee of folk song composer Ashugh Leyli. Ticket cost 500-2000 AMD.
