Trial opened Tuesday in the murder of Tigran
Naghdalyan, chairman of the Board of Directors
of Armenian Public Television. Naghdalyan
was shot to death last December 28 as he
was leaving his parents' home on Zakyan
Street in Yerevan.
A report by the United Nations Children's
Fund (UNICEF) accuses Armenia, some European
countries and some countries of the Commonwealth
of Independent States of underreporting
their infant death rates.
About 10 to 15
students sat outside the Presidential Residence in Yerevan
Thursday to protest the closing of student hostels.
They held banners saying "Think about future students"
and "Mr. President are you with us?" The government
is dismantling the student hostels, forcing non-resident
students to find other housing.
