Sports: Aussie (of Armenian descent) wins weightlifting gold, Armenian gets

Sergo Chakhoyan has won the gold medal in the 85 kilogram category at the world weightlifting championships in Vancouver, Canada, with a lift of 172.5 kg in the snatch.
Chakhoyan, 33, injured his thigh during the snatches but was able to also win the bronze medal in both the clean & jerk (205kg) and in total (377.5kg).
Chakhoyan was a member of the Australian Olympic team in 2000, placing sixth in Sydney.
Gevorg Davtyan (77 kg) from Armenia won two silver and one bronze medals.
He took the silver medal with 160 kg in snatch and the bronze medal with 195 kg in clean & jerk and one more silver medal for his total of 355 kg.

Mohammad Nejad of Iran took gold, with 357.5 kg.

Sixteen-year-old Hripsime Khurshudyan, the bronze medal winner of the European Youth Championship, was the youngest participant of the championship. She was the 20th in the weight category of 63 kg with the result of 202.5 kg (110kg+137.5kg).

Two more Armenian weightlifters were to compete today (Rafik Chakhoyan, 105 kg category, brother of Sergo Chakhoyan) and tomorrow (superheavyweight Ashot Danielyan).
