A draw completed in Frankfurt, Germany has put
Armenia in Group A of qualifying competition for
World Cup 2006.
Group A is considered the toughest to survive
of eight groups. Qualifying begins next September
and will find the Armenians going up against two
teams - Netherlands (4) and Czech Republic (6)
- ranked in FIFA's latest Top 10 in the world.
Other members of Group A include Romania (27),
Finland (40) and Macedonia (92). The only team
with a lower rank than Armenia (113) is Andorra,
at 147.
Armenia has recently finished its participation
at the qualifying stage for EURO 2004, where competing
in Group 6 with four other European countries
Armenia took fourth place winning, two games (both
victories were over Northern Ireland) of eight
possible and playing one draw.
Armenia will enter a second round of qualifying,
where it will face six teams competing for at
least a second-place finish.
