Arts Digest : A capsule review and preview of art and entertainment in Armenia


CULTURAL FESTIVAL IN JORDAN: Armenia will participate in an international cultural festival "Pompeii of the East" in the town of Jerash, Jordan, reported Arminfo on June 10.The festival of arts in Jordan, was first organized in 1981 and this year will be held July 27 - August 7. It will involve artists from Middle East, Armenia, France, Georgia, Japan, Sweden, Spain and the USA.

MALYAN STUDIO IN ROMANIA: Henrik Malyan Studio took part in 11the international theater festival Sibiu-2004 held in Romania May 31-June 6.

The press service of Armenia Foreign Ministry reports that attending the Sibiu festival were theater and music companies from 66 countries. The Armenian actors presented the Tales of Hovhannes Tumanyan.

WARM RECEPTION IN TURKEY: "I was given an unexpectedly warm reception in Turkey," duduk player Jivan Gasparyan said at a press-conference before his concert in Ankara, reported Arminfo on June 7.

According to the Turkish newspaper “Zaman”, Gasparyan said that the concert in Ankara will differ from the concerts he had given in other countries. The source points out that the works by Jivan Gasparyan are included in many soundtracks to modern movies, such as "Gladiator," "Evgeni Onegin" etc..

TOURISM SYMPOSIUM: The Yerevan office of Academy for Education Development (AED) in cooperation with several organizations with the financial support of USAID has initiated a project, called "Gyumri-Kars: Historical Cultural Tourism Symposium", reported Armenpress on June 9. The Symposium is to be held June 15-18- the first two days in Gyumri and the last two in Turkish Kars, across the border.

Local government officials, experts on preservation of historical cultural monuments, specialists in architecture and tourism and businessmen form Armenia and Turkey were invited to participate and discuss the present challenges of preservation of historical and natural objects and development of tourism.

June 16 Demirchyan Concert Complex, National Dance Festival, devoted to Armenian People’s Artist Vanoush Khanamiryan, Ticket cost 1000-5000 AMD
